Josh DeVoll is looking forward to overseeing the athletics department of a Division I school in the OCC.

DeVoll, 30, was named athletics director at Westerville South High School on June 26. He replaces Buck Weaver, who stepped down after four years to take the same position at Olentangy Orange.

DeVoll was the athletics director at Buckeye Valley this past school year and previously served as the athletics director at Linden-McKinley for two years.

“I’m excited to get closer to the central Ohio area, closer right outside the (Interstate 270) outer belt,” DeVoll said. “I’m looking forward to it. South has a strong tradition of academic and athletic excellence, and I’m excited to be part of such a great community and such a great school district.”

A 2005 Newark graduate and a 2009 Ohio State graduate, DeVoll previously served as an assistant football and boys basketball coach at Newark and helped develop the Newark youth football program.

“I have an extensive amount of experience in athletics outside of administration as well with coaching and being an assistant at Newark, along with my experience being at Buckeye Valley and with Columbus City (Schools),” DeVoll said.

At Newark, DeVoll was a social studies teacher and served as an administrator charged with improving the school’s graduation rate.
