Worthington Kilbourne High School baseball coach Mike Yinger has stepped down after two seasons and has accepted the position of athletics director at Buckeye Valley.

“It was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up,” said Yinger, who was 29-24 with the Wolves, including 14-12 last season.

Yinger, who did not teach at Kilbourne, also is leaving as dean of students at Delaware Hayes, where he coached baseball from 2005-12 following a stint as head coach at DeSales from 2000-03. He has a career record of 235-148.

“(Yinger) did a very nice job for us, so this is a loss for our program, but we knew from the outset that he had aspirations of obtaining an administrative role,” Kilbourne athletics director Jeff Todd said. “He had a good opportunity that he didn’t feel he could pass up.”

The Wolves lost seven players to graduation, including four starters.

Todd said he will be accepting resumes and applications, but does not have a hiring deadline established yet.
