Gabby Hutcherson, a 6-foot-2 sophomore standout in girls basketball, is transferring from Westerville North High School to Westerville South.
Hutcherson averaged 10.5 points as a freshman for the Warriors, who finished 19-6 overall and tied South for second (7-3) in the OCC-Buckeye Division behind Olentangy Liberty (8-2). She also played volleyball at North.
“I got an email on the last Monday of June about that,” North athletics director Wes Elifritz said. “Gabby lives in the South boundaries but open-enrolled to North in her freshman year. She will have to sit out 50 percent of both her basketball and volleyball seasons because of OHSAA transfer rules.”
Hutcherson already has offers from several Division I women’s basketball programs, including Ohio State and Maryland.
“Gabby’s doing what she feels is best,” Elifritz said. “She was one of the greatest kids that I got to know last year at North. She’s still a Westerville girl, and even though we’d like her to be at North, we wish her the best at South.”
