The Thomas Worthington High School football team is enjoying a renaissance this season, winning its first three games after losing its previous 17.
One of the biggest contributors to the Cardinals’ success has been Khalil Jones, a rushing and receiving threat who also has delivered on special teams.
Jones’ performance in a 47-13 win over Groveport on Sept. 8 has helped him earn our Player of the Week honor in a close vote. The voting panel includes ThisWeek staff and a Twitter poll, which represents one vote. In the poll, which received 2,512 votes over 24 hours, Jones edged Central Crossing’s Ben Bohne.
Jones had six catches for 115 yards and scored four touchdowns – two rushing and two receiving – against Groveport. He also returned a kickoff 94 yards to set up one of his rushing touchdowns.
The Cardinals have won three games in a season for the first time since 2013, when they finished 4-6. Their last non-losing season was in 2009, when they finished 5-5.
