The Ready High School football team has proven over the last month that what transpired in its opening 31-0 loss to Columbus Academy on Aug. 25 was an aberration.

In the opening quarter of that game, the Silver Knights gave up a 95-yard touchdown run. Then in the second quarter, the Vikings returned a fumble for a score and Ready never was able to recover.

The Knights haven’t lost since then, including beating Liberty Union 20-13 on Sept. 22 to improve to 4-1.

On Friday, Sept. 29, Ready will play host to Amanda-Clearcreek at Upper Arlington.

“The opening loss wasn’t as bad as what the scoreboard showed,” coach Brian Cross said. “(We’ve) played pretty well.”

Amanda-Clearcreek beat Fairfield Union 24-14 on Sept. 22 to improve to 4-1.

The Aces lost to Liberty Union 35-31 on Sept. 8 and played one other common opponent, Lakewood, which they beat 10-7 on Aug. 25.

Ready’s biggest margin of victory came when it beat Lakewood 49-13 on Sept. 1.

For the Aces against Liberty Union, senior quarterback Brayden Neff completed 17 of 25 passes

for 213 yards and one touchdown, junior running back Will Riffle rushed for 68 yards and one score and junior wide receiver Schuyler Boyer had eight receptions for 113 yards.

Then in a 28-11 win over Logan Elm on Sept. 15, Neff passed for 187 yards and one touchdown, Riffle had 98 yards and two touchdowns on 14 rushes and junior tight end Noah Smith added two receptions for 99 yards and one score.

In Ready’s 24-22 win over Grandview on Sept. 15, sophomore running back Jack Foley rushed for 173 yards and one touchdown on 24 carries and junior quarterback Austin Aiello was 6-for-12 passing for 77 yards and two scores.

The contest represented a home game for the Knights even though it was played on the Bobcats’ home field.

Against Liberty Union, Foley rushed for 91 yards and Aiello was 10-for-17 passing for 144 yards and one touchdown. Ryan Wood intercepted a fourth-quarter pass to help seal the victory.
