The football team will be looking for its second consecutive victory when it plays host to Zanesville Rosecrans on Friday, Sept. 29.
The Warriors picked up their first win under first-year coach Jeff Hartings when they beat Grove City Christian 27-3 on Sept. 22. Quarterback Braedon Mullins went 7-for-10 passing for 92 yards and a touchdown and he, Danny Myers and Michael Hartings each rushed for a touchdown.
Braden Anderson had 63 yards rushing, followed by Myers (58), Hartings (56) and Mullins (42).
Defensive back Ajai Smith recorded 5.5 tackles and two interceptions and defensive lineman Derek Holston had 7.5 tackles and 1.5 sacks as Worthington Christian improved to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the MSL-Cardinal.
“Pretty exciting night,” coach Hartings said. “We’ve had four games and been outmatched in a couple of those games physically. The thing I’d like to do is win the games we really should win physically and try to win those games that teams are matched up pretty evenly and find the competitive advantages. I felt like it was going to be a good matchup for us and, if we executed, we’d get a good result. I’m just happy for our players and our school.”
Rosecrans fell to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the MSL-Cardinal after losing to Harvest Prep 50-14 on Sept. 22.
Against Harvest Prep, senior quarterback Jack Nash was intercepted three times and completed just five of 15 passes for 80 yards but rushed 12 times for 89 yards. Senior running back Carter Dosch had 24 carries for 69 yards and a touchdown and senior wide receiver Hudson Moore had five receptions for 135 yards and one score.
