The Upper Arlington High School girls water polo team enters the second day of the state tournament two wins away from its fourth consecutive championship.

Seeded second in the 11-team tournament, the Golden Bears defeated the seventh-seeded Columbus Hawks club team 10-6 in a second-round game Oct. 20 at Cincinnati Princeton. UA improved to 18-8 and will play the third-seeded Cincinnati Mavericks club team in a state semifinal Oct. 21 at Princeton.

That winner will play top-seeded Napoleon or fourth-seeded Cincinnati Sycamore in the state final at approximately 7:15 p.m. The loser will play Napoleon or Sycamore for third place at about 6 p.m.

The Hawks began the tournament with an 8-7 win over 10th-seeded Worthington Kilbourne, which was eliminated later in the day with an 8-7 loss to ninth-seeded Milford.

Fifth-seeded Thomas Worthington lost to Sycamore 7-4 in the second round and will play eighth-seeded Princeton in a consolation game Oct. 21.

All teams are guaranteed at least two games in the tournament.
