Wendy Pinta has been named 2017 National Coach of the Year in girls lacrosse by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Coaches Association after guiding Upper Arlington to its third consecutive state championship last spring.

The NFHS announced the recipients of its national awards Jan. 11. The only other coach in Ohio to receive an award was East Canton boys track and field coach Thomas Loy.

Last spring, UA routed Massillon Jackson 15-6 in the Division I state final to finish 19-2.
