A strong start propelled Gahanna Lincoln High School junior Maycey Vieta to the Division I district girls diving championship Feb. 12 at Dublin Community Recreation Center.

Vieta, who was third at district last year but went on to win the state championship, scored 524.7 points to top a 33-diver field.

Also advancing to state were Olentangy Orange junior Lauren Cheetham (512.6), Upper Arlington junior Holly Darling (501.1) and UA sophomore Julia Fidanza (496.5). They will compete Feb. 22 at Branin Natatorium in Canton.

“I started out pretty strong for me, took a break and was still feeling the good energy,” Vieta said. “This time around I changed my order and it definitely worked for me.”

Cheetham was a state qualifier as a freshman but was unable to compete at district last year because of an injury.

“It’s great,” Cheetham said. “Unfortunately, I was unable to compete (at district) last year because I broke my wrist a week before district. To return back to state feels really nice. I got off to a rocky start but told myself there was more to come. I let the nerves kind of go away. We have a lot of good girls here so it makes for a great competition.”

Darling and Fidanza edged Olentangy Liberty senior Morgan Menninger (486.4) for the final state-qualifying berth. Menninger was fifth at state in 2016 and seventh a year ago.

Rounding out the top eight were Liberty seniors Libby Boothman (464.85) and Maia Kropp (414.84) and Dublin Jerome sophomore Alyssa Heinlen (414.45).
