MASON — Three singles players and three doubles teams from central Ohio will compete on the second and final day of the high school boys tennis state tournament at Lindner Family Tennis Center.

Moving on in Division I were district champion Robert Cash of New Albany and district runner-up Stu Brdicka of Olentangy in singles, as well as the district champion duo of Jack Dabek and Reese Yakubov of St. Charles and the district runner-up pair of Devin Boyer and Nathan Jose of New Albany.

On May 26, Cash faces Canfield’s Tim Cianciola and Brdicka plays Mason’s Niraj Kotineni in semifinal matches, with the winners to meet for the title.

“(Cash) won (6-2, 6-2) against a real good player (in Cincinnati Turpin’s Grant Wendel in a quarterfinal),” Eagles coach Marc Thomas said. “(Boyer and Jose) are playing the best they have all year.”

In Division II doubles, Wellington’s Connor Biernat and Griffin Biernat will play Dayton Miami Valley’s Makul Sharma and Reece Quigley in a semifinal after winning both of their matches in straight sets May 25.

The Jaguars’ Trevor Ball will play Miami Valley’s Colton Morehart in a semifinal in Division II singles.

Also competing in Division II singles for Wellington was Milan Gonela, who won his first match but defaulted in the second round because of illness.

“This is the first time that everyone won in the first round for Wellington at state, so we’re pleased,” Jaguars coach Tommy Haddow said.

Columbus Academy’s Sam Vogel and Suriya Sundaram won their first match and were up a set in the second round against Cincinnati Indian Hill’s Maanas Pisati and Mack Ellis in Division II doubles before losing 3-6, 7-5, 6-2.

The other competitors from the area in Division I doubles were Olentangy Orange’s Alex Heiden and Jordan Phelps and Upper Arlington’s Josh Cole and Will Reynolds. Both teams lost in quarterfinals.

Also in Division I singles, New Albany’s Ryan Mudre lost in the first round.
