The DeSales High School girls lacrosse team earned its third consecutive trip to the Division II state tournament with a 16-7 win over Columbus Academy in the Region 7 final May 25 at Thomas Worthington.

The top-seeded Stallions, who won the state title in 2016 and lost in a state semifinal last season, improved to 18-3 and will play Cincinnati Mariemont in a state semifinal May 29 at Dayton Chaminade Julienne.

The second-seeded Vikings finished 14-4.

Grace Lensmire led DeSales with six goals and five assists and Sophia Finotti and Payton Nebraska both added three goals.

Lexie Leader, Tani Obikunle and Kiersten Thomassey each scored two goals for Academy.

“We’re not going to be a flashy group with our skills like some of the other programs in Columbus, but these girls are gritty,” DeSales coach Joe Finotti said. “They give 110 percent effort, they’re physical and they want it. They have the desire. I’m very proud of them.”
