Kyle Mitchell hit his stride on the back nine to capture the Columbus District Golf Association Amateur championship July 27 at Scioto Reserve.

The 2017 Olentangy Liberty High School graduate beat 1995 Bexley graduate and former Ohio State player Andrew Montooth 4 and 2 in match play July 26 to move into the title match against 2016 Gahanna graduate Alex Vegh.

Vegh led Mitchell by two strokes after nine holes, but Mitchell made an eagle on No. 13 to take a 1-stroke lead and birdied Nos. 14 and 17 to win 3 and 1.

Mitchell competes for Marshall University after helping the Patriots reach the Division I state tournament during his sophomore and junior seasons.

Vegh defeated 2014 Westerville South graduate Justin Arens 3 and 2 on July 26 in his semifinal match.

Arens formerly played for Austin Peay and Vegh currently competes for the same university.
