The DeSales High School football team has a major question mark as it prepares to begin CCL action Sept. 28 at home against St. Charles.
During the Stallions’ 35-14 loss to visiting Covington (Kentucky) Catholic on Sept. 21, junior quarterback Reno Godfrey sustained what likely is a season-ending injury.
According to coach Ryan Wiggins, Godfrey left the game in the fourth quarter with a “broken ankle, tibia, fibula (and) ligament displacement” in his right leg after completing 19 of 32 passes for 247 yards and a touchdown against the Colonels.
Godfrey, who transferred from Westerville North in the offseason, was replaced in the game by sophomore Corey Moriarty, but it’s uncertain who will be the quarterback going forward.
“I honestly don’t know what we’re going to do yet,” Wiggins said. “I’m not sure our backup is healthy, either. We may have to move a skilled guy back there.”
DeSales is 3-2 and St. Charles is 2-3 heading into their matchup.
The Stallions are eyeing a return to the playoffs after making the postseason three consecutive years from 2014-16 before going 6-4 and falling shy of the Division III, Region 11 playoffs last fall.
