Sebastian Bramonte did not see the ball at the beginning of the play that ultimately turned out to the biggest in the Dublin Coffman High School football team’s 17-0 win over Upper Arlington on Oct. 26.

Once the Shamrocks’ defensive end had the ball in his hands with no one in front of him, he couldn’t reach the end zone fast enough.

Bramonte’s 32-yard interception return for a touchdown in the final minute of the first half made it 10-0 and provided an exclamation point on Coffman’s sixth consecutive victory against UA, a play created when linebacker Devon Williams pressured Bears quarterback Jacob Leve.

“I didn’t even see the ball coming. It just went over (Williams’) head, I caught it and the ball was juggling,” Bramonte said. “I tried to run faster than I was and I couldn’t. I was so excited that I couldn’t run any faster. That moment was just full of excitement.

“We haven’t played to our potential all year. This game, we did. That was our most complete game.”

Coffman, which improved to 9-1 overall and finished 4-1 in the OCC-Central Division, clinched the second seed in the Division I, Region 2 playoffs and likely will play host to Westerville Central in the first round Nov. 2.

UA finished 5-5 overall and 3-2 in the league and was eliminated from playoff contention, according to JoeEitel.com.

“Every defensive lineman lives for that moment,” Shamrocks coach Mark Crabtree said. “We haven’t had that many momentum-shifting plays this season that have turned into points for us. We’ve created some turnovers, but that was absolutely huge to get that right before the half.”

Quarterback Ethan Brown added a 27-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter to seal the win in a game that took just 1 hour, 57 minutes and was played in a driving rain.

“We executed the same game plan we’d have had whether it was raining or dry,” UA interim coach Barry Fox said. “They’re very sound defensively and they don’t make many mistakes. We had to be sound and mistake-free on our offense and we made a couple errors that everybody could see, like the interception, and stuff that maybe people couldn’t see.”
