The New Albany High School football team used three turnovers by Olentangy Orange, including one in the fourth quarter, to defeat the Pioneers 30-21 on Friday in Crew Stadium.

With less than four minutes left in the game and trailing 27-21, Orange was driving. The Pioneers had the ball at the New Albany 22-yard line when quarterback Corey Joe fumbled the handoff to tailback Daniel Watson. New Albany's Alex Vichinsky recovered, and five plays later Colin Show made a 24-yard field goal.

New Albany improved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the OCC-Capital Division.

"I don't know if they had answers as much as we were making mistakes," said Orange coach Brian Cross, whose team fell to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in the OCC-Capital. "That fumble was on a zone read play."

Earlier in the fourth, Orange had pulled to within a touchdown for the third time in the game after New Albany had taken a 14-0 lead.

Joe scored on a 22-yard run to help make it 27-21 with 7:29 left in the game. Joe also had 4-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to help make it 20-14, but New Albany answered on its ensuing possession with a 29-yard touchdown pass from Joe Morlan to Show.

Show, who also plays defensive end, also had a sack and a fumble recovery in the fourth quarter.

"We ask him to do a lot," coach Mark Mueller said. "He's a good player for us."

New Albany led 14-0 after linebacker John Korth intercepted a pass and returned it 27 yards for the score on Orange's first offensive possession.

Jacob Sullivan started for Joe Morlan at quarterback for New Albany and guided the offense on a nine-play, 65-yard drive on the Eagles' first possession, which ended with a 2-yard touchdown run by David Sharpe.

Sullivan left the game in the second quarter with an apparent arm injury and Morlan, who was battling arm tendinitis, took over in the second half.

Sharpe had 18 rushes for 142 yards. Watson led Orange with 92 yards on 16 carries.

Joe had 168 passing yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Orange cut the lead to 14-7 when Joe connected with Chase Swisher for a 58-yard touchdown pass, but Chance Moore returned the ensuing kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown to put the Eagles back
up by two scores. The kick failed as New Albany led 20-7 at halftime.

Swisher finished with four catches for 122 yards.

"The biggest thing we work on is coming together as a team when we're down," Show said. "I'm not going to take credit, it was a team effort and without guys like (long-snapper) Alex Vichinsky and
(holder) Matt Kadylack, it wouldn't be possible."
