Grove City's annual Winter Lights Christmas Celebration is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 5, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Town Center streets will be closed for the annual family-oriented event, which a city spokeswoman said "will embody the excitement, tradition and spirit of giving associated with the holiday season."

This year's theme, "Frosty and Friends," will be reflected in Town Center merchant window displays, a community parade and an ice sculpture, according to an announcement.

"Attendees can also take a free horse-drawn carriage ride through the streets, visit and take pictures with Santa Claus and enjoy performances by the Grove City Chamber Singers and the Grove City and Central Crossing High School choirs," the announcement said.

Pictures with Santa are $5, with proceeds going to Children's Hospital.

The 2008 Winter Lights Parade will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will feature floats decorated in Christmas lights.

The parade will start at Park Street Intermediate School, head north on Wilbur Avenue, turn west down Columbus Street, go south on Broadway through the Town Center and progress east on Park Street back to the school.

Following the parade, Santa and Mayor Richard L. "Ike" Stage will lead the ceremonial lighting of the tree.

Park Street west of Broadway will close at 2 p.m. Park Street, east of Broadway, and Broadway from Grant Avenue to Grove City Road, will close at 5:30 p.m.

Nonperishable food, toy and monetary donations will be collected for the Grove City Food Pantry and the Jackson Township Fire Department's Toys for Kids program.

The first 1,000 donors will receive a free gift in exchange for their contribution.
