Through a new partnership, this year's Arctic Open will offer more than golf.

The Dublin AM Rotary is partnering with the Westerville Sunrise Rotary for the first time, adding the Wendy's Chili Open to the Arctic Open lineup on Saturday, Feb. 6.

The partnership was born when the Dublin AM Rotary learned the Chili Open was moving to the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, which is down the road from the Shamrock Golf Club where the Arctic Open is held.

"We're using the energy from both events," said charity chair Sharon Kendall. "We're basically the golf event for the Chili Open."

The entry fee for the Arctic Open includes a ticket to the Chili Open. Kendall said the Dublin AM Rotary is hoping golfers will meet their families at the zoo and warm up with some chili.

"We're trying to get people to golf in the morning and then go to the Chili Open with their family. They can make a day of it," she said.

The Arctic Open, in its 18th year, is a great bonding event, Kendall said.

"I think the camaraderie is a big bonus. For people who are golfers, it gives them the opportunity to play during the winter," she said.

The event includes nine holes of golf and uses racquetballs and Hula-Hoops if there is snow on the ground. Kendall said the weather has spiced up the event in previous years.

"Last year, we had a foot of snow on the ground and it was a good time," she said. "It's nine holes and you don't wear your golf clothes, you wear your ski clothes."

The Arctic Open is one of two major fundraisers for the Dublin AM Rotary. Kendall said the proceeds from the event would go to the general Dublin AM Rotary foundation fund.

"It's a combination of charities that we typically give to," she said. Benefactors include Welcome Warehouse, scholarships, the Willow Ridge Equine Center and the Dublin Robotics club.

Kendall said funds also would go to the group's project that took veterans to Washington, D.C., for a daylong visit to memorials for the first time in November.

"That was well-received," she said. "We'll be doing that annually."

Registration for the Arctic Open is $80 for an individual player or $320 for a four-person team.

The entrance fee includes golf, a cart, prize bag, breakfast, lunch and a ticket to the Chili Open. Sponsorship opportunities ranging from $500 to $20,000 also are available.

"It's an opportunity to give back to the community," Kendall said. "We do appreciate all donations that we get from the Dublin corporations and the sponsorships."
