This month's Fourth Friday celebration will turn Uptown Westerville into doggie heaven.

This month's Fourth Friday celebration will turn Uptown Westerville into doggie heaven.

The "Dog Days of Summer" will run from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 27, with events, merchandise and information focusing on man's best friend.

The "Best on the Street Dog Show," from 6 to 7:30 p.m., invites participants to take their dogs to five judging stands to have their pets rated. The results will be tallied and winners will be announced following the Mutt March.

The Mutt March, a doggie parade sponsored by the Capital Area Humane Society's Ambassadors Group, will work its way through Uptown beginning at 8 p.m. Participation in the Mutt March is $15, and participants who collect additional pledges will eligible to win a variety of prizes.

The march will begin on West College Avenue, travel south on South State Street, west on West Park Street and north on Knox Street back to West College Avenue, where prizes will be awarded.

Also during the celebration, 15 of the more than 120 vendors set up throughout Uptown will feature products, services and information for dogs.

That includes food and treats, leashes, training, pet sitting, veterinary services, grooming, pet insurance and a new product to keep dogs cool during the summer.

Several rescue groups, including the Franklin County Animal Shelter and the Citizens for Human Action Animal Shelter, will present information about adoption.

Other entertainment during the celebration includes music by Avalon Nine on the AAA Ohio Auto Club Music Stage at the corner of North State Street and East Home Road and "Karaoke with Art and Dave" on the Gazebo Stage on East College Avenue.

Food vendors will be set up, and the Westerville Honor Flight will sponsor a "Pork-a-Palooza" pulled pork dinner on Winter Street near Union Savings Bank. Proceeds from the dinners help fund trips for World War II veterans to the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Children's activities during the celebration include the Westerville Puppet Posse, story times at Amish Originals north store, fitness activities near Hanby School and digital fingerprinting in front of the Municipal Building. The Westerville Division of Fire will have fire equipment on display, and McGruff the Crime-Fighting Dog and Sparky the Fire Pup will be on hand.

Participating Uptown shops will remain open until 9 p.m.

The final Fourth Friday of the year, "School Daze," is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 24.
