Dave Cooper is looking FOREward to Sept. 12.

That's when the chairman of the committee planning the Northland Area Business Association's ninth annual golf outing can finally relax, because he'll have done all he can.

It will be tee time at York Golf Club.

"They're going splendidly," Cooper said last week of plans for the business group's major annual fundraiser.

As of last week, 45 golfers had signed up to participate, he added, and the goal of committee members had been at least 40.

"So we're in good shape," he said. "I attribute it to the fact that I have simply controlled it and contacted all of our regular partners and I have been very fortunate that they have stepped to the plate.

"I think it's just a matter of contacting them early -- but not too early."

More golfers can be easily accommodated for the 10 a.m. shotgun start at the course, located at 7459 N. High St.

The cost is $125 for individual golfers.

For the past several editions of the outing, which was renamed the Golf-a-Rama when Cooper took over as committee chairman, a "community partner" has been selected to also benefit from the event's proceeds. These are nonprofit organizations that operate in the Northland area.

For the first time in the outing's history, a repeat partner has been chosen, the North YMCA.

Programs at the Karl Road branch of the YMCA of Central Ohio will receive 20 percent of the proceeds from the tournament, which will also benefit NABA's "Shop Northland First" campaign.

Volunteers to help out the day of the Golf-a-Rama, along with items for a planned silent auction as well as for the "goodie bags" being given to players, have been coming in steadily, Cooper said.

His committee began meeting in early June.

"Now we're focusing on getting hole sponsors," Cooper said. "We would like to have one for each hole, minimum, and we would be happy to double up. Right now, we have about a third of them covered."

As has been the case in the past, the Hadler Cos., Krieger Ford and National College's Columbus campus have "stepped up in a big way" to be sponsors of the Golf-a-Rama, Cooper indicated.

"We can always use more sponsors," he said.
