The polar bears at the new Polar Frontier exhibit at the zoo. Buy $20 worth of Kroger cheese, yogurt and milk to get a FREE child's ticket. Hurry as the offer is only available during June.
Columbus Zoo & Aquarium The Columbus Zoo & Aquarium's new Polar Frontier has an amazing polar bear exhibit. They also have arctic foxes and brown bears in this new addition to the zoo. It's a little hike to the new area, but you can stop and see farm animals at the barn, learn about Ohio animals or stop to see the swans, moose or birds in the aviary along the way. It's set up like an old mining town and you can see the bears swimming in the water, too. It's supposed to be a little cooler mid-week, so that might be a good time to visit. Discounts: Kroger sells discount admission tickets to the zoo and they also have a special where if you buy $20 worth of Kroger brand cheese, yogurt and milk, then you get a free child's admission to the zoo during June. Tropicana Juicy Rewards also has a $1 discount coupon for the zoo in exchange for 1 point. Don't forget to check for a $1 off coupon in your 2010 Entertainment Book. I bought a book at Discount Drug Mart for $15 in January and I've already saved 10 times that amount. They're currently on sale online for $9.99. Also, as I mentioned last week, the zoo offers FREE admission to active and non-active duty military and veterans and their immediate family members beginning today through July 4. Don't forget it's $5 to park. TIPS: • I mentioned this last year, but in case you missed it here's my tips on saving money. Take a picnic lunch to have in one of the many picnic areas at the zoo. The new area on the way to the Polar Frontier has a nice, shaded area in the trees and there are picnic tables inside shelters in Jungle Jack's Landing. • Buy one of the drink bottles-which were $8 during a recent visit-and get a refill for $1.06 (99 cents + tax). • If you get a little tired from walking or get a little hot, take a break and sit and watch fish swim in the aquarium or the Animals on Safari show.
