Friends, for some, New Years Day is steeped in tradition. For many, it is to watch football, especially this year with the Buckeyes in the Rose Bowl. For others, it may be to gather with family for a pork and sauerkraut dinner or a bowl of blackeyed pea soup. One of my favorite New Years Day traditions is to go shopping!
Some of the best post-Christmas bargains are not offered until New Years Day and after. That is when retailers will give the biggest mark downs on their leftover holiday and winter merchandise. Most stores do inventory at the end of January so the goal is to move as much of the remaining inventory out as they can. Another plus is that the stores are not overly crowded on New Years Day.
New Years Day is not just a good day to head to the mall, but it is the perfect time to shop the drug stores such as CVS and Walgreen’s. In the past I have been able to pick up Christmas wrapping paper for as little as $.10 per role. If it is ornaments or artificial Christmas trees you are looking for, now is the time to buy.
So in between the New Years festivities, find time to look at the circulars and head out shopping. JCPenney is offering doorbuster deals all day on Friday along with their instant money coupons. Sears has all of their Kenmore appliances on sale for 20% off, plus take an extra 5 % off if you use your Sears card. All other brands are on sale for 10% off. You never know what gems are waiting for you. For now, happy shopping!
