Friends, it is possible to have a special date night and celebrate New Year's Eve in style without breaking the bank. You do not need to skimp on dinner or a movie. One just needs to know where the deals are to accomplish their goals.

Stay in and cook your own New Year's Eve dinner. You do not need to skimp on the menu. You just need to know where the deals are. Serve filet mignon or roasted beef tenderloin for the entrée. Right now, you have buy a whole beef tenderloin for $6.00 per lb. at Huffman's Market in Upper Arlington, or $5.99 at The Anderson's House of Meats. They average about 3 to 4 lbs. per tenderloin. If ordering in a restaurant you will pay $20.00 and up for an 8 oz. filet.

There are also some deals for Prime Rib roast. The best prices I have found this week are at The Anderson's for $6.99 lb. for a bone in prime rib. The boneless are $7.99 lb. Carfagna's have a standing rib roast for $7.49 lb. Save a Lot has a boneless rib roast for $7.99 lb. and Costco has a boneless rib roast for $6.99 lb.

*If you have never tried the pre-cooked prime ribs they are wonderful. GFS has one for $7.99 lb. You will still need to roast it in the oven to warm and get to your desired doneness. Check out my Meat, Poultry & Seafood blog to show you the complete list of deals for this week. http://blog.dispatch.com/TheBagLady/2009/12/meat_poultry_seafood_deals_aro_7.shtml

Serve it with twice baked potatoes and your favorite vegetable. Check out my Produce blog to show you where the best deals are at this week. http://blog.dispatch.com/TheBagLady/2009/12/produce_deals_around_town_69.shtml

Make a decadent dessert to top the meal off. If you choose to buy one, check out the selection at Trader Joe’s. They are affordable and delicious. My family loves their Tiramisu. You will get 4 servings from the package for the price of one serving at any of the local restaurants.

In lieu of paying full price at a theatre, rent a few movies you have been meaning to see. If you have HBO or Showtime on demand, that is a good route to go.

Don’t forget the bubbly to toast the New Year in. This week I have seen bottles of Ballatore Gran Spumante for $6.99, Cook’s Champane for $7.99 and Martini & Rossi Asti Spumante on sale for $13.99 at Discount Drug Mart. Check out the wine department in the grocery chains and specialty stores. They keep their prices fairly comparable.

Above all else, enjoy! That is what New Year's Eve is all about: saying goodbye to 2009 in style. For now, happy shopping!
