The Pickerington High School Central football team routed Gahanna 40-7 Friday in an OCC-Ohio Division game at Tiger Stadium.

Central improved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the OCC-Ohio and Gahanna dropped to 3-3 and 2-1. The Tigers are tied atop the OCC-Ohio standings with Grove City.

"This game was possibly for the OCC title," Central senior defensive back/wide receiver Jamie Wood said. "We're not going to overlook any of our future opponents, but getting this one was big."

Tyler Hammond rushed for 126 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries, including a 74-yard scoring run just 23 seconds into the game.

Nick Raymond was 8-for-16 passing for 112 yards, before sitting out the second half with a sore left (non-throwing) shoulder.

Wuan Tatem also scored on a 5-yard run, and Zach Boren scored on a 1-yard carry, as Central built a 27-0 halftime lead.

"Nick got dinged up on the first play of the game," Central coach Jay Sharrett said. "He was (medically) cleared to play in the second half, but we didn't want him taking any more hits than he has to.
Speedy Hammond stepped up and had a very good game, on a night when we really needed it."

Central's defense limited Gahanna to 57 rushing yards on 33 carries and 150 yards of total offense. Cord McCallister was 10-for-21 passing for 93 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 32 yards on 15 attempts.

"Man-for-man, they're the best team we've seen," Gahanna coach John Snoad said. "Defensively, they're very aggressive and they're so fast, big and strong, that they're able to dictate a lot of what you can do."
