Not even teammate Storm Klein could overshadow what the 6-0, 165-pound Ryan did this season.
"(Ryan) really brings a certain amount of excitement," coach Randy Baughman said. "He plays the game the way it's supposed to be played. He has a great time out there. He makes plays out of nothing. It's fun to watch."
Ryan threw for 1,254 yards and 16 touchdowns and rushed for 932 with 19 touchdowns through 13 games. His team lost to Eastmoor 14-10 in a state semifinal last Saturday. He made first-team all-district on defense as the free safety. A probable baseball recruit for college, he also returns kicks and is punting in place of Klein in the playoffs.
"He's the difference-maker on that team this year," Newark Catholic coach Bill Franks said.
