The Central Crossing High School wrestling team came up short in its bid to win a district title on Saturday at Hilliard Darby but still managed to qualify two wrestlers to the Division I state tournament.

The Comets finished fifth at district with 78.5 points as Hilliard Davidson won the title with 119.5.
Austin Sanders won the 130-pound title, beating Isaiah Allen of Reynoldsburg 7-2 in the final. Chad Channel finished second at 135, losing to Randy Languis of Dublin Scioto 12-5 in the final.

Cody Beatty was the only other Central Crossing wrestler to place at district, finishing sixth.

Also competing at district were Dez Hauber (103, 2-2), Andrew Higgins (112, 1-2), Matt Perez (119, 2-2), Vince Pickett (125, 1-2), Cody Wimer (140, 2-2), Aaron Hardy (145, 0-2), Isaac Redfern (215, 1-2) and Matt Schramm (285, 2-2).

The state meet will be held Thursday through Saturday at Ohio State. Channel will be competing at state for the third time, and Sanders will be competing for a second time.

Grove City finished 30th with 15.5 points and did not qualify any wrestlers to state.

Competing for Grove City were Jacob Swavely (112, 1-2), Josh Mills (119, 1-2), Collin Whitt (125, 2-2), Nick Kowaleski (140, 1-2), Jose Hughes (152, 2-2) and Ryan Wells (160, 0-2).
