The 6-1 Matthews helped lead the Pacers to a 22-1 season, as they lost to Pickerington North 56-48 in a Division I district semifinal March 3.

Matthews, who averaged 15.4 points and 10.4 rebounds, was first-team all-district as Delaware won the OCC-Capital and was sixth in the final state poll.

"Makeda improved her game exponentially since her freshman season," coach Erin Fragale said. "She added offensive moves around and basket and used both hands. She became a better rebounder and defender. She worked very hard on positioning and thinking to rebound.

She learned how to defend and block shots and move her feet without getting into foul trouble. If she weren't competing against her sister for points and rebounds, her averages would have been through the roof."
