The Johnstown-Monroe High School girls cross country team was the lone Division III team in the area to qualify for state at last Saturday's regional meet at Pickerington North.

The Johnnies won the girls race with 79 points, finishing just ahead of second-place Northmor (89). Leading the way for Johnstown was Erin Radigan, who took 10th overall in 21 minutes, 13.34 seconds.

At the state meet on Saturday at Scioto Downs, Johnstown will look to improve on its 12th-place finish from last season.

Hannah Stefanoff of Grandview won the individual title, finishing in 19:48.89. Stefanoff was second last season, behind two-time state champion Stephanie Morgan of Barnesville.

"Stephanie is a really great runner, but it felt good not to have someone way out in front of you to make you feel like you're running so slow at the end," Stefanoff said.

Stefanoff was the only individual qualifier in the area.

Area boys teams were shut out of the critical top four spots. Grandview had the highest finish of any area team, taking seventh with 173 points, as Belleaire St. John Central (65) won. The Bobcats were led by Ian Dyer in 24th-place (18:26.16).

Jon Michael Hilsheimer of Columbus Academy was the area's only individual qualifier. Hilsheimer finished ninth in 17:58.56.

Chilly temperatures and a steady rain slowed times across the board. Only nine runners broke 18 minutes and none broke 17 minutes.
