Off-trail Hike, 10 a.m. Dec. 31 at Indian Ridge Bulletin Board. Enjoy a 3-mile off-trail hike through prairies, forests and ravines.

New Year's Birding, 9 a.m. Jan. 1 at the nature center. Search the trails for birds.

Blacklick Woods Metro Park

Noon Year's Eve, noon Dec. 31 at the nature center. Recall some important environmental events of the year with us and enjoy a 2-mile walk.

Homeschoolers: Snow Science, 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. Jan. 2 at Beech Maple Lodge. Explore the world of ice and snow with some hands on experiments for ages 6-12.

Quadrantids Meteor Shower, 5:30 a.m. Jan. 4 at the nature center. Watch for meteors named for a long forgotten constellation and learn about some winter stars.

Blendon Woods Metro Park

New Year Bird Hike, 8 a.m. Jan. 1 at the nature center. Begin your new year bird list exploring the trails of the park on a 2 mile hike.

Glacier Ridge Metro Park

Christmas Bird Count, 8:30 a.m. Dec. 31 at the maintenance shop. Search for birds on- and off-trail as part of the National Audubon Society Christmas Bird Count.

Highbanks Metro Park

Friday Feeding, 1 p.m. Dec. 30 at the nature center. Watch the naturalist feed the education reptiles and amphibians and learn what it takes to care for them.

Ohio's Wildlife, 10 a.m. to noon Dec. 31 at the nature center. See animals from Ohio Wildlife Center.

Homestead

4675 Cosgray Road, Hilliard

For Kids: Nature Detectives, 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. Dec. 30 at the Lakeside Pavilion. Children ages 3-10 will learn how to recognize animal tracks and signs then take a short hike to look for them in the wild.

Inniswood Metro Gardens

940 S. Hempstead Road, Westerville

Preschool in the Gardens: Mammal Yoga, 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. Jan. 4 at the Innis House. Children ages 3-5 will explore the way Ohio mammals move their bodies through a series of yoga-inspired movements. Wear comfortable clothes and sneakers. Advance registration is required and children will need to be accompanied by an adult. The program will include a hike.

Scioto Audubon Metro Park

400 W. Whittier St., Columbus

Pre-K Storytime, 10 a.m. Jan. 5 at the Grange Insurance Audubon Center. Bring your little ones for a nature-inspired story or two.

Birdwatching for Beginners, 10 a.m. every Saturday at the Grange Insurance Audubon Center. Learn how to use binoculars and search for birds.

Sharon Woods Metro Park

Preschoolers Plus: Open House Party, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 30 at Spring Hollow Lodge. Stop by anytime to celebrate New Year with games, activities, crafts and a countdown on every hour for ages 3-7.
