The Bexley Music Parents Association will hold its fourth annual "Jazz it Up!" Spring Gala from 7 to 10 p.m. April 27 at the Capital University Harry C. Moores Campus Center, 745 Pleasant Ridge Ave.

The gala reaches out to alumni of the Bexley music program, both parents and students, and supports the band, orchestra and choir programs they loved while attending school in Bexley.

Partially underwritten by First Bexley Bank and other private donors, "Jazz It Up!" will feature the music of the New Albany Jazz Trio led by Bill Manchester, the Bexley Middle School choir director and former high school marching band assistant.

Refreshments and a cash bar will be available. A silent auction will feature gift cards from local businesses; tickets to theater, concert and Ohio State University sporting events; a week at a lakefront vacation home and more.

In addition, Bexley Music Parents will present the Friend of Music Award, which honors outstanding volunteer efforts on behalf of the district music program. Last year Mary Gardner, longtime supporter of music in the schools, received the award.

Bexley High School graduate Billy Gardner, class of 2007, also will attend the event to speak about how the music program touched his life.

Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at bexleymusicparents.org.

Bexley Music Parents is a nonprofit organization founded in the 1960s to support all music programs K-12 in the Bexley schools. The group funds student scholarships, band uniforms, choir robes, musical instruments, choral accompanist fees, guest artists and more.
