Hartley High School senior Aisha Cavin committed to compete in track and field for Ohio State earlier this month, ThisWeekSPORTS.com has learned.

The defending Division II state champion in the 400 meters who also was fourth last year at state in the 200, Cavin chose Ohio State over Oregon.

"(Ohio State's) coach has been watching me for years, and the distance was a lot better," Cavin said of committing to a school close to home. "My parents are Michigan fans, so I grew up in a house that didn't root for Ohio State. I've been over to the campus a lot and I really do like the campus."

Cavin is expected to participate in a signing ceremony next week along with seniors Maya Pedersen and Chelsea Scott. Pedersen has signed with Dayton and Scott has signed with Pittsburgh. Pedersen and Cavin ran on the 800 relay which was second in the state and Scott ran on the winning 400 relay last season.

Hartley finished second (71) in the team standings at state last year after winning the 2009 title.
