The City of Groveport will host the first inaugural Kids on the Move 5K benefiting Nationwide Children's Hospital on Saturday, Sept. 12, at Groveport Recreation Center, 7370 Groveport Road.

The 1-mile race is at 9 a.m. The 5K is at 9:30 a.m.

The entire family is invited to walk, run or cheer on the race participants.

The event is designed to promote National Childhood Obesity Awareness month and celebrate the opportunities that local parks and recreation departments offer to families to get active. The goal of this event is to encourage youth in Groveport, as well as surrounding communities, to get outside and take advantage of the park systems that are available. Families will be encouraged to discover their local parks as they train for the big race.

Half of the proceeds are being donated to Nationwide Children's Hospital Center for Healthy Weight and Nutrition. The Center for Healthy Weight and Nutrition offer families a comprehensive approach to weight management. Additionally, the Center has programs for both the prevention and treatment of overweight children.
