The Canal Winchester Board of Education has pared down the list of candidates for the position of treasurer.

Superintendent Jim Sotlar said the board received 14 applications for the job being vacated by a retiring Treasurer Joyce Boyer. The first round of interviews, held at the Canal Winchester Education Center, began Friday, March 18.

Six were tapped for first-round interviews:

Missy Griffith, treasurer for the Belpre City School District.

Nick Roberts, treasurer for the Licking Heights Local School District.

Elena Sanders, who works for the Ohio Department of Education in the federal programs department.

Eric Soltis, treasurer for the Pike-Delta-York Local School District.

Karl Zarins, audit executive for the Ohio Auditor's office.

Adam Zink, treasurer for the Hillsboro City Schools District.

Sotlar said the second round of interviews will take place in the beginning of April.

The board's goal is to hire the new treasurer at the April 18 board of education meeting, with the official start date of Aug. 1, he said.
