Applications will be accepted through July 31 for girls interested in participating in the Miss Canal Winchester pageant during the city's annual Labor Day Festival.

A $3,000 college scholarship will be the top prize for the winner of the 2016 Miss Canal Winchester Peggy Wood Scholarship Pageant. Other prizes will be awarded in several age categories. Applications are available online at cwlaborday.org.

Contestants for this pageant must be in grades 9-12.

The Tiny Miss Canal Winchester contest is for children in kindergarten through second grade; the Little Miss Canal Winchester pageant is for grades 3-5; and the Junior Miss Canal Winchester contest is for girls in grades 6-8.

Older contestants will be judged on confidence, poise, stage presence, public speaking ability and leadership skills. The older contestants also model both sportswear and formal attire. Older division contestants are scored on an interview with judges. The top winner becomes Miss Canal Winchester and represents the community in local and statewide events.
