Groveport usually goes all out for July 4 and this year is no exception.

From food such as Texas tenderloin and funnel cakes to performances by the Groveport-Madison High School drama club and a Beatles tribute band, a children's parade, a main parade and fireworks, the Independence Day celebration "is truly a hometown event," Groveport Mayor Lance Westcamp said. "This ... is Groveport at its finest."

The event is free to the public, according to Patty Storts, Groveport community affairs director. Except for the main parade on Main Street, activities will be located around the historic log cabin in Heritage Park, 551 Wirt Road.

Food will be available for purchase from vendors, she added. Some of the culinary goodies will include Italian sausage, hamburgers, french fries, Texas tenderloin sandwiches, bratwurst sandwiches; several deep-fried items, chili cheese Coney hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, kettle corn, various Asian foods, New Orleans shaved ice and funnel cakes, according to Storts.

Prizes will be given away each hour from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., she said.

The children's parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the log house.

The main parade will start at 11 a.m. on Main Street.

From noon to 4:30 p.m., there will be various activities for the public, including music from the main stage by Larry Carter, a singer, songwriter and guitarist, according to Storts.

There will also be inflatable and "bounce" houses for children, as well as kids' games and activities.

At 3 p.m., a tractor pull is scheduled in front of the main stage; registration for participants will take place at 2 p.m. just to the left of the main stage, Storts added.

From 5 to 6 p.m., the Groveport-Madison High School drama club will perform skits and songs, including numbers from Godspell and Cry Baby, and scenes from Bad Auditions by Bad Actors; Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind and Leading Ladies.

The Beatles tribute band, A Hard Day's Night, will perform from 7:45 to 9:45 p.m. Fireworks are scheduled to will start at dusk.
