A section of the Olentangy Trail was scheduled to close this week for a sewer improvement project.

The 1.5-mile segment of the trail will be closed between Pacemont and Patterson avenues through April 2, according to Terri Leist, spokeswoman for the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department.

A detour will be posted beginning from Pacemont Avenue to North High Street, south to North Street, to Neil Avenue, then west on Patterson Avenue to return to the trail.

From the south, the detour will route from Tuttle Recreation Center at Patterson Avenue, east to Neil Avenue, north to Dodridge Street, east to North High Street, north to Pacemont Avenue and then west to return to the trail.

Learn to Knit Day slated

Knitters Mercantile in the Graceland Shopping Center will be holding "Learn to Knit Day" on Saturday, Jan. 30.

"Learn to Knit Day is designed to showcase this ancient fiber art, explore projects and provide an open opportunity to explore the craft without stress," according to the announcement. "Participants can experience knitting through instructor-led classes that will run throughout the day. Classes are unstructured and allow for participants to stay as long as they like during the day."

A fee of $25 covers supplies of needles and yarn as well as the instruction for those wishing to learn the basics of knitting. There is no charge for people who simply want to watch knitters in action.

Galleria Evangelia to hold workshops

Galleria Evangelia, 4269 N. High St., will host three valentine's workshops starting Feb. 7.

Poet William Holden will teach participants to express their romantic feelings on Sunday, Feb. 7, from noon to 2 p.m. The cost is $20.

Designer Kerin Mets will help participants design elegant, handmade cards on Wednesday, Feb. 10, from 7 to 9 p.m. The cost, which includes materials, is $20.

Ann Woods will produce works of calligraphy, suitable for framing, on Friday, Feb. 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. and again Saturday, Feb. 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $12.

Participants may attend any or all workshops. Discounts are available for those signing up for all three.

Historical society slates event

The Clintonville Historical Society will host the Clintonville Valentine's Emporium from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at 4334 N. High St., south of the post office.

The emporium will feature unique gifts for your valentine.

A preview shopping opportunity will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5. Adults may participate in the preview event by purchasing six raffle tickets for $10.

Net proceeds will support the society's preservation efforts, including the inclusion of East North Broadway on the National Register of Historic Places, the restoration of the existing historical marker and the preservation of Clinton Annex school.
