The Central Ohio Symphony has been praised by the League of American Orchestras as that group launches its 2010 "Orchestras Feeding America" campaign.

Warren W. Hyer, executive director of the symphony, said a recent Facebook post by the League named four orchestras whose participation in the April 2009 effort yielded exceptional results.

The concert to benefit People In Need raised more than one ton of food in one evening, placing the symphony 12th of more than 250 participating orchestras. Symphony musicians and the organization, along with OWU, donated the entire concert.

Plans are now under way for another concert in the spring. Details will follow during the next few months.

Chorus needs new members

The Community Chorus invites new members to join the group for the spring concert season.

The spring concert, scheduled for April 25, will feature show tune and madrigals. All voices are welcome, although male singers are especially in demand.

Prior experience isn't necessary, just the ability to match pitch.

Rehearsals are at 7 p.m. on Mondays on the third floor of Ohio Wesleyan University's Sanborn Hall. The chorus sings a mix of sacred, classical and popular SATB music.

To join the chorus, come to rehearsal on Monday, Jan. 25. No new members will be accepted for the spring concert season after that date.
