The Seventh-day Adventist Church in Delaware will host country gospel singer Joe Pearles in concert on Sunday, Aug. 7.

Pearles will perform at 7 p.m. at the church, 104 N. Sandusky St. in Delaware. He will attend a 6 p.m. "meet and greet" at the church before the show, and CDs and DVDs will be available for purchase after the performance.

Pearles, a longtime performer who was once the lead singer of the group The Quiet Sound, moved to Nashville and launched a solo career in the mid-1980s.

The concert is free, though an offering will be collected to help pay Pearles' expenses.

'Picnic with Cops' planned Aug. 5

Main Street Delaware's Aug. 5 First Friday celebration will feature a "Picnic with the Cops" party and summer sidewalk sales at many downtown businesses.

Members of the Delaware Police Department will grill hot dogs for residents from 6 to 9 p.m. Police cruisers also will be on hand for children to explore.

On Sept. 2, the First Friday celebration will feature a kick-off to the Delaware County Fair, set for Sept. 17 through 24; on Oct. 7, hayrides and a harvest sale of items from area farmers will highlight the evening.
