The documentaryWhen God Left the Building will be screened from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, at Sunbury United Methodist Church, 100 W. Cherry St., Sunbury.

A 20-minute discussion led by Pastor Mike Mack will follow the film. The event is free and open to all.

According to a press release from the church, the film "reveals the decline of the American church and focuses on the current spiritual climate."

Thom Schultz, the film's producer, is quoted in the release as saying, "What was once the heart and soul of the community is going away." He said weekly church attendance has dropped to 20 percent of the population, a trend that has resulted in the closing of 4,000 churches per year.

The film, produced by the Colorado media company Group Productions, documents the trend and also features unconventional work being done by churches and other organizations.
