Police arrested a Delaware man after finding footprints left in the snow near two cars set ablaze earlier this month on the city's north side.

Officers responded to the parking lot of the Frank B. Willis Government Building, 2079 U.S. Route 23, shortly before 9 p.m. Feb. 4 after receiving a report that a car was on fire. Less than an hour later, police responded to a report of a second car on fire in the parking lot of an apartment complex directly west of the first scene in the 2200 block of Bruce Road.

Delaware police Capt. Adam Moore said officers discovered similar shoe prints in the snow near both vehicles. He said evidence at the scene, including the footprints, led officers to identify a suspect in the case.

Police arrested Sebastian I. Nead, 18, of Hills-Miller Road in Delaware, about 8 a.m. Feb. 5 on a charge of complicity to arson, according to Delaware County Sheriff's Office records. Nead was booked into the Delaware County jail shortly after.

Moore said the investigation into the case continues and more arrests could follow.

He said the cars suffered "substantial damage" in the incidents, but no one was injured. He said investigators do not think Nead has a prior relationship with either of the two victims.

Moore said the department has not discovered a link between the incidents and another suspected arson that occurred in the city Jan. 23. In that incident, police responded to a report that someone set a car's seat on fire while it was parked in the 200 block of Chelsea Street.
