* Homeschool Adventures, 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19. Ages 7 to 12 with an adult. Weather permitting, we'll visit a vernal pool to see salamander egg masses. Indoors, we'll learn about the habits and life cycles of different native salamanders. Free. Shale Hollow Preserve, 6320 Artesian Run.

* Doggie Day, noon to 5 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 21. All ages. Discover Ohio's wild canines and explore various ways to enjoy nature with your domestic dogs. We'll learn using displays, games and crafts. Free drop-in program. Deer Haven Preserve, 4183 Liberty Road.

* Railroad Fun, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 21, and noon to 4 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 22. All ages. Watch model trains travel through a miniature village, and learn about the history of railroading in America. Free. Big Walnut Community Trailhouse, 168 S. Vernon St.

* Skunk Cabbage Hike, 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 22. Ages 7 and older. The first wildflower of spring blooms in wintry weather. Although it's beautiful, it doesn't smell great. Indoors, we'll learn about this plant, and then hike to the wet, muddy place it grows. Wear appropriate footgear, as we'll be off trail for the hike. Free. Shale Hollow Preserve, 6320 Artesian Run.
