Ohio Wesleyan University will host the 52nd President's High School Band Festival Jan. 15 and 16.

Ohio Wesleyan University will host the 52nd President's High School Band Festival Jan. 15 and 16.

High school musicians from Ohio and surrounding states will participate in the two-day event, which will include hands-on workshops, OWU scholarship auditions and a free community concert.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. Jan. 16 in University Hall's Gray Chapel, 61 S. Sandusky St., Delaware. Ohio Wesleyan's Symphonic Wind Ensemble will join the high school musicians on stage. OWU music professor Larry Griffin will conduct.

The program will include Alex Poelman's Pinocchio, Fleodrodum by Eric Swiggers, Meindert Boekel's Spirit of Life, Michael Geisler's Call of Heroes and Fusion by Brian Balmages. The concert also will be streamed live online at owu.edu/stream.

Griffin, a trumpeter and OWU faculty member since 1986, is chairman of the annual band festival.
