Sisters Susan Auckerman and Lynda Miller always have considered themselves crafty.

While they bought and sold items mostly at craft shows, they dreamed of opening a boutique gift shop featuring their favorite designer lines.

"You're always wondering if you're the only one with the same taste," the 43-year-old Miller said. "Then people compliment what you have. We have an eye for certain things and people share that."

What do the sisters have an eye for? Those familiar with the Vera Bradley lifestyle will feel at home at Bliss, the new brightly decorated store for women at the Shoppes at River Ridge.

"We just love everything about Vera Bradley," the 53-year-old Auckerman said. "It's about all the things that are a girl's best friend. It's colorful and fun and not real expensive."

Bliss opened last week, although it will have an official grand opening Friday, Nov. 28. There will be special store hours for the opening, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., that will be continued Saturday, Nov. 29. The first 50 costumers will receive a free gift with their purchase, and there will be a variety of other deals, Auckerman said.

The store, 4345 W. Dublin-Granville Road, is filled with designer brands, all created by women, Auckerman said. They include Vera Bradley, Crabtree & Evelyn, Stephan Baby, Bambini Carini, Mistral, Bean Pod, Trollbeads, Chamilia, Lela Belle, She Beads, Staxx and Kameleon.

"These are just everyday women that took their passion and made something of that," Auckerman said, referring to why those product lines were selected. "Well, that and we just liked them."

The store sells a variety of merchandise including handbags, luggage, ornaments, cards, candles, stationery, clothing and small children's items. Jewelry makes up a large portion of the sale items, including the Beyond Words line that features capsule pendants with popular quotes, and Grandmother's Buttons, a jewelry line made of buttons more than 100 years old.

Bliss also sells the John Medeiros jewelry line. Medeiros will be in the store for a special sale from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 11.

Bliss carries several design-your-own jewelry lines. Two bead bars, next to the checkout counter, provide a place for customers to sit and design their pieces, Auckerman said.

The average item costs between $35 and $75, Auckerman said.

Auckerman owns a similar store, the Chandler House, near her home in Springfield. Her husband, Mark, and Miller's husband, Doug, are Bliss co-owners. The Millers live in Zanesville.
