NBA junior and WNBA junior basketball leagues are forming for the summer for players grades 3-12. The kickoff party will be 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Cherry Valley Lodge. The season runs July 11 through Aug. 29 with game locations in Blacklick, Buckeye Lake, Gahanna, Pataskala, Pickerington and Reynoldsburg.

The Ohio High School Athletic Association Board of Directions met June 11 and voted on a number of issues. The Board elected Steven Stirn to serve as president and Rocco Nero as vice president for the 2009-10 school year, beginning Aug. 1. The Board voted to extend the contract with Akron Firestone Stadium to be the site for the softball finals, making the terms 10 years, which begins in 2008. The Board approved a one-year extension for Huntington Park to be the site for the state baseball tournament in 2010.

The Ohio Premier girls soccer club announced that it is adding a U-8 youth academy. There are no tryouts or cuts. The U-8 girls will participate in two or three activities a week as well as in the OP juniors program. The teams will compete against teams in the MOSSL. Players will rotate teams from week to week. The eighth-annual Circleville Dog Days 5K road race will start at 9 a.m. Aug. 1, beginning and ending at Circleville High School.

There will be awards for the top three finishers in all 28 age groups, as well as awards for the top three overall male and female finishers.
