St. Brigid of Kildare Church will host the "Spice it up!" 5K walk and run and chili cook off Nov. 12.

The second annual event will raise money for Special People in Catholic Education, or SPICE, a program that supports education for children with special learning needs in Diocese of Columbus parishes and schools.

The 1-mile walk will begin at 11:30 a.m. and the 5K at noon Nov. 12. Registration for both events will start at 11 a.m. The race starts and finishes in the park across the street from St. Brigid of Kildare, at 7210 Avery Road.

T-shirts will be given to race registrants ages 18 and under, while the first 225 adults registered will receive a "Spice it up!" 5K chili bowl to sample some free chili after the race.

Registration for the run is $25 and the walk is $20. Walkers may add other family members for $5, with a maximum cost of $30 per family.

NextGen schedules events

NextGen Dublin, the Dublin Chamber of Commerce's group for young professionals ages 21 to 39, has scheduled events through December.

The professional and networking group that boasts nearly 300 members holds events for networking, social interaction and learning about business.

"We want to get the word out to others about NextGen Dublin, and the best way to do that is to invite young professionals to bring friends and co-workers to one of our many events," Jenny Jakse, the chamber's chief operating officer, said in a news release. "The events range from sporting events and social networking to career development seminars, volunteer opportunities and book club meetings - so there is something for everyone."

Upcoming events include a food and coat drive from Nov. 1 to Dec. 20. The group will collect winter coats and nonperishable food items at all NextGen events and at the chamber, 129 S. High St. Items will benefit the Dublin Food Pantry and Welcome Warehouse.

A football tailgate party will be held Nov. 12 at the Rusty Bucket Tavern, 6655 Perimeter Loop Drive. The event will include the Ohio State University football game against Purdue. Entry into the event is free for members and $5 for non-members.

The NextGen Dublin book club will hold a meeting from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Dublin Chamber of Commerce to discuss the book "The Culture Code: An Ingenious Way to Understand Why People Around the World Live and Buy as They Do."

The NextGen Dublin holiday party is slated for 5:30 to 7 p.m. Dec. 15 at the Brookside Golf and Country Club, 2770 W. Dublin-Granville Road. The event will serve as a holiday mixer and includes complimentary food and beverages. Those attending must be 21 or older.
