The Washington Township Fire Department has received a $2,000 grant from commercial property insurer FM Global.

The award will be used to purchase equipment that will help fire investigators more efficiently determine the cause of fires that occur in Dublin and Washington Township.

Two high-output, battery-operated lights will enable investigators to proceed independently of the equipment carried on other fire department response vehicles, which will allow all vehicles to return to "in service" status once the fire is extinguished.

The grant will also support the purchase of a digital camera, which will be used to document evidence at fire scenes.

The camera will be shared among the fire department's four investigators.

"We're always looking for ways to stretch our budget," said Neil Cline, a Washington Township fire inspector who wrote the grant request.

"This grant will help us improve our service efficiency and therefore, service quality, without increasing our expenses," Cline said.

The Washington Township Fire Department provides fire prevention, fire suppression, emergency medical services, and education and safety programs for Washington Township, which encompasses portions of Franklin County including the city of Dublin and portions of Delaware and Union Counties.
