Joe Cahill has been named Dublin Scioto High School swimming and diving coach, ThisWeekSPORTS.com has learned.
Cahill, a 1998 graduate of Grove City, spent the last five seasons as coach at Hilliard Davidson. He replaces Mike de Bear, who left Scioto last month to take over the boys program at Upper Arlington.
Under de Bear, Scioto enjoyed success, capped by strong showings at the Division I state championships last season. The girls team finished seventh (112 points) behind champion UA (295) and the boys were 12th (53) behind Cincinnati St. Xavier (228).
Meanwhile, Cahill's final season at Davidson produced the program's first two-time state qualifier in Jake Miller. At the Division I state meet Feb. 26-27 in Canton, Miller tied Cincinnati Moeller's Kevin Schwab for 14th in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.03 seconds and placed 22nd in the 100 free (48.45).
Scioto graduated six of the nine swimmers who competed at the state meet. The Irish open Dec. 2 at the Dublin Recreation Center against Dublin Coffman, Dublin Jerome, Thomas Worthington and Worthington Kilbourne.
