Gahanna City Council on Dec. 21 honored city finance director Jerry Isler.

Isler is retiring Dec. 30 after 21 years with the city. He was recognized in a mayoral proclamation and a resolution passed by council. The resolution describes Isler as "a man of great integrity who is dedicated to his family first and will be greatly missed by all who have had the pleasure to work with him and know him."

Isler started with the city in 1988 and has been recognized several times. He received the 2009 Career Achievement Award by the Ohio Government Officers Association for "serving as a governmental fiscal officer for 15 years or more and for his service and contribution to the association," according to information from the city.

He also helped develop youth soccer programs, serving as treasurer for the Gahanna Soccer Association for more than 15 years. A soccer building in Headley Park has been named after him, and he is credited with starting the first girls select travel soccer team in Gahanna, which he coached to a first-place win.

Deputy finance director Angel Mumma will take over Jan. 1.
