The Franklin County Board of Elections (FCBOE) will conduct a recount of the Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools' 6.8-mill permanent operating levy beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1.

The Franklin County Board of Elections (FCBOE) will conduct a recount of the Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools' 6.8-mill permanent operating levy beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1.

Ben Piscitelli, FCBOE public-information officer, said the recount is required under Ohio law because the November ballot issue's margin of difference was less than one half of 1 percent (103 votes) in the contest. The yes vote was 10,212 and the no vote was 10,309, for a difference of 97 votes, Piscitelli said.

As part of the recount process, 5 percent of the votes cast on electronic voting machines and paper ballots, including provisional votes, will be recounted by hand.

The proposed levy was expected to raise $10.1-million annually.

Valladares said revenue generated from the levy would go toward the district's general operations, including salaries, benefits, supplies and materials, transportation, equipment and such purchase services as utilities.

Results of the recount will be certified on Dec. 6.
