Instrumental music students from middle schools East, South and West, along with freshmen from Gahanna Lincoln High School, participated in the Ohio Music Education Association's (OMEA) Solo and Ensemble Adjudicated Event April 16 at Canal Winchester High School.

Students performed solos or as part of a small ensemble, receiving comments and a rating from an OMEA adjudicator. Each event is given a rating by the judge: I (Superior), II (Excellent), III (Good), IV (Fair) or V (Poor). Adjudicators also complete a thorough comment sheet for each entry.

The four schools combined to enter 67 events, with 41 solos and 26 ensembles. Soloists earned 32 superior ratings and nine excellent ratings. Ensembles received 18 superior ratings, five excellent ratings and two good ratings. One ensemble performed for comments only.

Gahanna music teachers whose students participated in the event include Diane Ballard, Jonathon Bradshaw, Rob Cebriak, Mark Kinser, Greg Miller and Kelly Shellhammer.
