Residents and business owners are needed to help shape future development efforts in Gahanna through the formation of area commissions.

Gahanna Mayor Tom Kneeland is establishing the area commissions as a way to increase public involvement in decisions affecting commercial development, zoning and economic development efforts.

"As Gahanna continues to grow, resident and business engagement and their input will be vital for future development for the city," Kneeland said. "Our goal is to get key stakeholders involved early on in the process and to foster a more transparent relationship between the community and the developers, to help guide planning and reinvestment strategies for all areas of the city."

Gahanna residents and business owners from all areas of the community and the downtown business district are sought to serve on the commissions.

The goal is to help build a better communication channel between the city and its residents, business owners and developers, according to Kneeland.

The area commissions are a part of Kneeland's 10-point Plan-Commitment to Gahanna, and are aligned with the city's strategic plan, GoForward Gahanna, which was adopted in 2016, and the Economic Development Strategy, adopted in December 2015.

"Area commissions will help to provide developers with a clear picture of community expectations for new development projects while providing citizens and business owners the opportunity to shape the future development of their neighborhood," said Anthony Jones, director of planning and development.

Applications are being accepted.

More information about the area commissions and the online application can be found under the government section of the city of Gahanna website, Gahanna.gov, under "Boards and Commissions."
